Wipro expanding operations in Ireland

WiproBangalore, May 27 : India's third largest IT bellwether company Wipro Ltd is expanding its operations in Ireland to meet its business requirements in Britain.

"We plan to increase the headcount by 50 percent (100) in the next 12 months at the Shannon development centre in Dublin where we have about 200 engineers delivering IT services to banks and financial services firms across Ireland and Britain," the global software major said in a statement here Tuesday.

The Irish centre also provides back-office (business process) services to marquee retail banking and insurance firms, as a regulated entity through the Central Bank of Ireland and complying with the British financial conduct authority.

"Ireland offers a great talent pool and excellent infrastructure support. We are seeing a lot of interest from banks in the region for services around business resilience, risk and compliance, simplification, digital, mobility and analytics," Wipro vice president and head of banking and financial services Rajan Kohli said in the statement.

The Shannon business, set up to drive innovation and create high value job opportunities in the region, was unveiled by Irish Finance Minister Michael Noonan in November 2012. (IANS)
