Woman stops Planned Parenthood protest with words ‘yeast infections’

On Sunday, Mary Numair discovered how yelling at the top of your raspy voice about yeast infections can disperse a mass of Planned Parenthood protesters. Mary found so in a spontaneous single-woman counter protest in front of the center of the organization in Northeast Portland.

When she repeatedly chanted ‘YEAST IN-FECTIONS’, all parents and children, who were toting signs declaring ‘ABORTION IS MURDER’ rushed away.

The 29-year-old woman, Numair, of Southeast Portland, tweeted about her triumph. Her tweet soon went viral. Her story was picked up by Buzzfeed. Slate called her ‘brave’ and her protest was declared ‘awesome’ by Huffington Post. Even the British media picked up the news.

According to Numair, she has touched a nerve. Numair said she did something that other people would have loved to do. She added that most of people stand by Planned Parenthood.

The organization has faced a state and congressional attack after an anti-abortion group, the Center of Medical Progress, released videos and accused it for the sale of fetal tissue and for using abortions to garner specimens.

Jimmy Radosta, a spokesman for Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, said that the protest outside Planned Parenthood's health center at 3727 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. was a part of the twice-yearly anti-abortion protest, known as 40 Days for Life. He added that the organization has welcomed Numair's counter protest.

Radosta said, “We are thrilled at Mary's solidarity and the global response that it has received. We strongly believe that women should be able to get health care without fear of violence or harassment”.
