Yamaha aims to sell 28 lakh two-wheelers by 2018

YamahaIndia Yamaha Motor (IYM), a division of Japan-based two-wheeler company Yamaha Motor Co., aims to increase sales of its two-wheelers in the country to two million (20 lakh) units in 2016 and subsequently to 2.8 million (28 lakh) units in 2018, a top company official has announced.

Speaking at the launch of the company’s new scooter, the Yamaha Ray, in Hyderabad, IYM CEO & Managing Director Hiroyuki Suzuki said that the company would erect a new manufacturing plant in Chennai, which would production capacity, helping the company in achieving sales of 1 million units in 2014.

Suzuki added that production and sales would increase further in the subsequent years.

Speaking on the topic, he added, “We will expand our total production capacity further in the long-term. We are planning to expand our sales to two million units in 2016 and 2.8 million units in 2018.

Suzuki added that IYM currently sells nearly 4 lakh units per year and by next year sales would jump to 6.5 lakh units. Exports, at present, accounts for 20 per cent of the company’s total sales

The Yamaha Ray was launched by Bollywood actor Deepika Padukune. Priced at Rs 46,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Ray will target rising class of young female customers, who wants style, comfort, performance in single vehicle.

The 113-cc Ray can sprint from zero to 60 kilometers per hour (kmpl) in just 12 seconds and delivers fuel efficiency of 62.1kmpl.
