Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe seeks repeat of 2006 elections

Bogota  - Colombian President Alvaro Uribe announced Thursday night that he will ask Congress to pass a referendum law so that the 2006 elections that brought him to power for a second term can be repeated.

On Wednesday Colombia's Supreme Court sentenced Yidis Medina, a former lawmaker, to three years' house arrest for taking a bribe in return for her supportin Congress for a constitutional change letting Uribe run for a second term. (dpa)
