Germany's Dresden Elbe Valley dropped from World Heritage list

Germany's Dresden Elbe Valley dropped from World Heritage list Seville/Bonn - Germany's Dresden Elbe Valley was Thursday dropped from the World Heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the German UNESCO commission said in Bonn.

The site lost its status because of the construction of a steel highway bridge across the valley.

The 21-member World Heritage Committee was meeting in the southern Spanish city of Seville to review the World Heritage Site list that includes about 880 sites from 145 countries.

The 18-km-long Dresden Elbe Valley along the Elbe River has some of the best landscape in Germany, adorned with 18th and 19th century construction and valuable natural areas.(dpa)
