Platoon in Alaska at Fort Wainwright Faces Investigation over ‘Racial Thursdays’

According to reports, a platoon in Alaska at Fort Wainwright is presently undergoing an investigation for ‘racial Thursdays’.

Racial Thursdays’ offer the men in the platoon one day a week to freely use racial slur against each other without any reprisal by the recipient.

As per the report, the platoon is part of the 1/25 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, the 2nd platoon, C company, 3rd battalion, 21st infantry regiment.

As per sources familiar with the issue, the authorities were first notified about the racial Thursdays practice through an informal complaint filed by a platoon member.

According to KTVA Alaska, Lieutenant Colonel Alan Brown, a US Army Alaska spokesperson, said yesterday that officials were previously made aware of the issue of the Racial Thursdays.

Brown said that an informal compliant was made through command channels about this practice. The command has also assigned an investigation officer and an investigation in the form of a commander’s inquiry is ongoing.

The command takes every complaint quite seriously and will investigate every allegation, he added.

According to Brown, the next step for the military will be 15-6 investigation. “15-6 is a formal investigation where the commander appoints an investigating officer to gather all the facts in a particular case and makes recommendations to the commander”, he said.

Furthermore, Lieutenant Colonel Brown went out of his way in his report to emphasize and reiterate how seriously the army takes such allegations.

He affirmed that treating all the soldiers with dignity and respect is something which the command takes extremely seriously. And if in case there are any indications that those values are not being followed, the command will absolutely make inquiries, conduct appropriate investigations and take necessary actions required.
