2 yr old Sonu trapped in 150ft deep borewell near Agra
The police personnel and the district officials have launched a massive effort to rescue a two year boy, Sonu who fell into the 150 ft deep borewell around 10 am on Thursday while playing near his house in Tohra village near Shamsabad town, 26 km from Agra.
In order to get to the boy, a parallel well was dug near the borewell by the authorities. However, they fear that since there was a pond near the site, the level of the water in the borewell could increase.
Speaking on this, Anil Kumar, district magistrate, Agra said, “We are trying our level best to rescue the child and machines are being brought to dig up a parallel hole.”
“A technical team is guiding the rescue operation and it has told us that the pond is 30 m away and it won’t affect digging up of a parallel hole,” he added.
It’s not the first time that such an incident has occurred in the country. Earlier in 2006, a small child named Prince fell into a borewell which was two-and-a-half feet in diameter. After two days of efforts, Prince was rescued by the Army. The incident was telecast live on almost all the channels on TV.
Similar cases were also reported from Ghaziabad, Ahmedabad, Raichur and Jaipur in the last couple of years.
