Beijing - A bus accident killed 24 in a mountainous region of north-west China's Xinjiang region, Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.

The bus, carrying students on a health check-up trip after having passed entrance examinations of high schools and their parents, turned over Tuesday between Akqi county and Atux city, 1,180 kilometres from the regional capital Urumqi.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. (dpa)
