Aspirin A Day, Keeps Heart Attacks Away!

A new study revealed that daily dose of ‘Aspirin’ helps in preventing heart attacks in Aspirin A Day, Keeps Heart Attacks Away! middle aged group.

Heart attacks take place when a clot blocks up a blood vessel, but aspirin makes it difficult for blood clots to form.

A study led by researchers suggested that women from the age of 57, and men from 48 are about to derive benefit from this drug (aspirin).

The study comprising around 12,000 patients aged between 30 and 75 pointed that by the age of 58 in women and 47 in men, the 10-year coronary cardiopathy possibility is about 10%, which is worth treating.

At that time, unless someone is exposed to hazardous fallouts as they have a condition including a stomach ulcer, the benefits overbalanced the disadvantages, the researchers concluded.

But, according to study researchers, their results did not apply to diabetics or those at high risk of bleeding.

The researchers stated that though diabetes patients were likely to have benefited from aspirin treatment owing to their high heart disease risk, the evidence was not clear up till now.

The researchers also suggested that, for anyone above 75 years, the decision whether or not to take aspirin be made individually, as they were more likely to suffer bleeding complications.

Lead researcher Dr. Iskandar Idris told that routinely prescribing aspirin in these age groups was a workable choice.

“The final decision about use of aspirin must eventually be made after discussion with a healthcare provider," he said.

Dr. Mike Knapton, director of prevention and care at the British Heart Foundation, said that healthy research was required before considering aspirin as a blanket primary prevention measure.

“We would encourage everyone to examine their own individual risk and take steps to reduce it by adjusting their lifestyle," Mr. Mike added.
