Bangladesh condemns "mindless acts" of terrorism in Mumbai

Bangladesh condemns "mindless acts" of terrorism in Mumbai Dhaka - Bangladesh on Thursday condemned the overnight terrorist attacks in India's financial capital of Mumbai that left 101 people dead and 287 injured.

"I condemn it as a mindless act of terror," Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, foreign affairs adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, said in a statement that denounced the carnage in the neighbouring country. "I wish to underscore that terror can serve no purpose."

"Our hearts are with those so many innocent people, Indians and foreigners, who have been affected by these cowardly bombings," added Iftekhar, who also addressed a letter to his Indian counterpart, Pranab Mukharjee.

India in the past has accused Bangladeshi groups of committing acts of terrorism in its territory. Bangladesh had denied Indian media reports linking a Bangladeshi outfit in a series of terrorist attacks in the Indian state of Assam in late October, which killed at least 70 people. (dpa)
