Dhaka - Legislators elected to Bangladesh parliament were expected to take oath on the weekend as the country inches back to democratic rule, officials said Saturday.

The parliament speaker will swear in 262 members of the Awami League-alliance of Sheikh Hasina Wazed on Saturday afternoon, an official at the secretariat said.

Thirty-seven others from Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance and other small parties will take oath on Sunday.

Former prime minister Hasina is expected to return to power after her alliance won the December 29 polls in a resounding landslide. (dpa)
