Bill Clinton Defends Decision to Accept Foreign Donations when Hilary was Secretary of State

Questions have been raised over Clinton’s foundation’s decisions to accept foreign donations at the time when Hillary Clinton was the Secretary of State. Now, former US President Bill Clinton has defended the decision.

In reports, one of the foreign governments that gave money to the foundation was that of that of Saudi Arabia, which allegedly gave between $10 million and $25 million to the Clinton Foundation.

“I don't think there's anything sinister about getting wealthy people and countries that are seriously involved in development to spend their money wisely in a way that helps poor people”, said Clinton when he was on a tour of Africa for the Clinton Foundation's projects.

The former president stated that his charity has never done anything intentionally that should not be done. The foundation is facing pressure from the critics and may be due to this factor, the foundation has recently announced that it will only accept contributions from six Western governments: Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

Clinton also affirmed that changes in the policy meant for the foundation should be considered as an acknowledgement they are going to come close as they can during her presidential campaign to follow the rules they followed when she was secretary of state.

The foundation is under scrutiny at the time when Hillary is going to get the Democratic nomination for president. Among the changes in the foundation policies include, the foundation will increase the frequency of disclosures of its donors from annually to quarterly.

They will publish new contributions started in July 2015 and then each quarter thereafter. It is also being said that after the Clinton Global Initiative International conference to be organized this month in the Middle East and Africa, the foundation will not hold any CGI International events.
