Boeing 747 Dreamlifter safely takes off from Colonel James Jabara Airport
A Boeing 747 Dreamlifter cargo plane, which had landed at a wrong airport on Wednesday, has safely taken off from that Colonel James Jabara Airport on Thursday.
The aircraft had mistakenly landed at a shorter airport and many believed that it was stranded because it was difficult for the pilots to take-off from such a small airstrip. The aircraft left New York JFK for e McConnell Air Force Base but instead landed about nine miles away at Jabara airport. Traffic Control recordings showed that Dreamlifter's pilots confused the pilot for McConnel AFB.
Some reports "indicate that the crew was still disoriented about its location, believing it had landed at Beech Factory Airport".
Audio recordings showed that Dreamlifter pilots can be heard saying to the McConnell control tower that they just made a landing at the other airport. After the landing, the Wichita officials warned motorists over a jet blast concerns as the pilots prepared for take-off from the small runway. Following the take-off from the airport, the aircraft is expected to take eight minutes to reach its original destination.
