Brathwaite, Samuels, Bravo turn down WICB central contracts

Barbados [West Indies], Nov.3 : T20 skipper Carlos Brathwaite, along with batsmen Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo, has denied central contracts offered by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for the 2016-17 international cricket season.

Consequently, the list of centrally-contracted players has now depleted back to 12 after the country's cricket board had increased it from 12 to 15 earlier this January for 2015-16.

The WICB cited no reason as to why Samuels, Bravo and Brathwaite had turned down the contracts,ESPNcricinfo reported.

Roston Chase, Alzarri Joesph, Miguel Cummins have earned their maiden contracts, while Jomel Warrican, Denesh Ramdin and Kemar Roach are some of the big names that have been left out of the list, which was shortlisted based on performances between October 2015 and September this year.

Fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell and opening batsman Rajendra Chandrika have also failed to make it to the 12-man list, which also features Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Leon Johnson, Jomel Warrican.

The WICB released the list a day before West Indies wrapped up a five-wicket win over Pakistan in Sharjah in the final Test in Sharjah. (ANI)
