State owned air carrier, Air India has decided to slash the fuel surcharge by Rs 400 for all routes. This would pave the way for cheaper air travel and tariff revision by the private carriers. Currently, domestic carriers are charging a fuel surcharge of Rs 2,350 per passenger for distance up to 750 km and Rs 3,100 for above 750 km. Surcharge was increased following the significant increase in the crude oil price in the international market, around three months ago. The fuel surcharge for the short flights now would be Rs 1,950 as compared to Rs 2,350.
DUBAI, Nov. 29th, 2008: An Emirates Airline spokesperson today said in a press release the carrier "can confirm it has operated a special flight yesterday to U-Taphao Airport, about 150 kilometres east of Bangkok, to recover stranded crew and passengers." " We have also provided transportation to take crew and passengers to the airport. The Boeing 777-200 aircraft, which is scheduled to arrive in Dubai later this morning, will bring back 90 crew and 75 passengers", he added.
"Our scheduled flights to Bangkok continue to be affected due to the closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport", he said.
WAM The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar to increase the number of flights between the two countries.
According to the MoU, Fly Dubai was appointed as the UAE national carrier along with Emirates, Etihad, Air Arabia and Rak Air as the UAE's national carriers while Qatar Airways was appointed as Qatar's national carrier.

Sydney - A Qantas Airways jet aborted a flight to Singapore and returned to the Australian west coast city of Perth after one of its two engines was shut down, news reports said Saturday.
The Airbus A330 with 168 passengers aboard turned back Friday when an engine oil warning light flashed in the cockpit.
Aviation sources told The Sydney Morning Herald that the engine starter motor failed because maintenance engineers in Hong Kong had forgotten to oil the motor after an overhaul last week.
