New Delhi: In order to tap India’s rustic population, administration and private sector companies will have to concentrate on specialised infrastructure. India’s rustic population accounts for more than $100 billion in consumer spending certainly the largest buyers in the country.

A report prepared by CII and YES Bank reported that diverse population, hapless infrastructure, seasonal demand, multifaceted buying behavior and price predisposition are the main challenges that companies projecting to enter rural retail need to overcome.

New Delhi, Sept 25 : Traders from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi today protested against the entry of multinational companies into retail sector here.

Scores of traders held placards and shouted slogans against the government for inviting corporate into the retail sector.

Ashok Goel, President of the Vyapari Suraksha Forum (Traders Protection Forum), who led the protest, said they were protesting the lack of initiative by the government in preserving the interest of small traders.

Bangalore: Zicom Electronics Security Systems intends to open 180 exclusive retail outlets in India by the next 30 months. The company is also eying sales in the Middle East countries, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Santonu Choudhury, Zicom CEO, said Zicom presently has 20 outlets in India and 50 shops-in- shops in big stores and malls.
