Businesses to hire more staff in the coming six months, survey

Businesses to hire more staff in the coming six months, surveyAccording to a new survey, businesses in the UK are planning to recruit more staff over the coming six months, which will boost the slow jobs market in the country.

Accountancy firm, BDO said that its employment index reached 96.0 during the month of March, which is its highest level since August 2011. The index measures hiring intentions of businesses over the next two quarter and data showed that it is the third straight month that the index has been above the 95.0 level, which indicates employment growth.

The data also showed businesses in the country do not expect the economy to grow in the coming two quarters. The total manufacturers' optimism has fallen from 94.5 in February to 88.2 during March due to continuing weak demand from the domestic customers and struggling eurozone import partners. The company said that the confidence in the important service sector, which accounts for about three fourth of the British economy, has risen to its highest point since October 2012.

Peter Hemington, a BDO partner said, "It is encouraging to see improvement in UK businesses' hiring intentions, particularly in light of the imminent public sector payroll cuts which will add pressure to the unemployment rate."
