Following its resounding success in its home market, BYD is now gearing up to make significant strides in its global expansion journey. As part of its planned global expansion, the automaker is all set to commence production at its high-tech electric vehicle (EV) plant in Thailand. Setting a stage for is foray into the Thai market, BYD has plans to kick off EV production in the third quarter (Q3) of this year. This announcement comes hot on the heels of the Chinese automaker’s triumphant showcase of its diverse range of brands at the venerated Bangkok Auto Show, where the automobile giant unveiled its ambitious plans for the region.

In 2023, the company enjoyed a meteoric growth as Thailand's best-selling EV maker, with its all-electric Atto 3 electric SUV emerging as the top-selling model. The company proudly announced that it delivered more than 19,200 units of the Atto 3 last year. Such unprecedented success underscores the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles in the region, with consumers eagerly accepting BYD's innovative electric offerings.

With construction of its first car plant in Thailand approaching completion, the Chinese automaker is poised to usher in a new era of advanced EV manufacturing technology in the region. The automaker’s investment is not only set to create a substantial number of jobs but also promises to revolutionize the automotive landscape with its state-of-the-art production facilities.

The overseas unveiling of the Chinese automaker’s full range of brands signifies a significant milestone, underscoring its dedication to providing leading-edge mobility solutions worldwide. From the sleek and adaptable Song Max EV to the ultramodern Yangwang U9 supercar, the company’s diverse lineup caters to a wide range of discerning consumers.

With the forthcoming operation of BYD's new facility in Thailand, the company is poised to produce an impressive 150,000 EVs annually, reinforcing its existence in the region. This investment aligns with Thailand's ambitious target of transitioning 30 per cent of its vehicle manufacturing to electric, highlighting the crucial role of sustainable mobility in shaping the nation’s future.

Amidst its unremitting expansion efforts, BYD's global footprint is steadily growing. The company’s new facilities are underway in Brazil and Hungary, following the successful commencement of production at its Uzbekistan manufacturing facility earlier this year. While plans for an additional factory in Vietnam are temporarily on hold, the company’s unwavering commitment to driving innovation and sustainability remains steadfast, propelling it towards its vision of becoming a global automotive powerhouse.
