Congress is a pro-poor party: Rahul

Congress is a pro-poor party: RahulHyderabad, Apr 8 : Rahul Gandhi, scion of India's most powerful political dynasty and touted as a future Prime Minister, on Wednesday said that his Congress party is pro-poor.

Addressing an election meeting in Hyderabad, Gandhi lashed at the opposition parties, accusing accused them of being anti-poor.

"The difference between the Congress party and our opponents is that we are proud of the poor people of India, we believe in the poor people of India and they are ashamed of the poor people of India," Gandhi told a large gathering here.

The young Gandhi scion also added that at present there is no issue more challenging than poverty and his party is determined to tackle it.

"They believe in building Hyderabad, we believe in building Hyderabad. But we also believe in building the rest of Andhra Pradesh," he said.

India will hold general elections between April 16 and May 13, in which 714 million people would be eligible to cast their votes to elect a new parliament.

Over the last year, Gandhi has made well-publicised visits to poor villagers, often staying the night in farmers'' homes under the glare of camera lights. (ANI)
