Congress, SP to form alliance in UP for next general polls: Website

New Delhi, Sept 30 : Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav are reportedly going to sign a secret deal to form an electoral alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the next general elections.

According to politicsparty.com, Sonia and Mulayam had a “secret” meeting recently. The report said the UPA Chairperson has invited the former UP Chief Minister to join the Union Cabinet along with six other members from the SP.

It added that the induction of SP in the Cabinet would stabilise the Central Government till 2009.

The Congress-SP alliance is said to be aimed at keeping the Muslim votes away from Chief Minister Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the state.

The website said that if the Congress and the SP contest the general polls separately, the former would not get a single seat, while the latter would manage to win in just five constituencies.

But as an alliance, they hope to win 40 seats in Uttar Pradesh. (With inputs from ANI)
