Dadwal denies reports of Abu Bashir’s help in today’s encounter

Abu Bashir, Ahmedabad blasts accusedNew Delhi, Sept 19 : Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal on Friday denied getting a tip off from Ahmedabad blasts mastermind Abu Bashir in an encounter carried out by the Special Cell in which two terrorists behind the serial blasts in Delhi were killed earlier in the day.

Dadwal said that one terrorist has been arrested while two terrorists have managed to escape during the operation in Jamia Nagar in south Delhi.

Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who led the team, and a head constable were injured in the heavy exchange of fire.

Speaking to media on the encounter operation, Dadwal said one AK 47 rifle, two pistols and one computer have been recovered from the place of the hideout.

He further said that the killed militant Atif alias Bashir was involved in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Jaipur serial blasts.

Atif was linked to Mohammed Usman Qureshi alias Tauqeer, the main mastermind behind serial bomb blasts in various parts of the country.

Five bombs exploded in quick succession in crowded markets and busy streets in Delhi on September 13, killing 20 and injuring at least 90.

Jaipur, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru were hit by serial blasts in recent months killing and injuring hundreds of people.

An outfit "Indian Mujahideen" had claimed responsibility for the blasts, but authorities suspect it to be an offshoot of the SIMI. (ANI)
