Drinking Lots Of Water Is Of No Help, Says Researchers

A new study carried out by UK researchers discovered that drinking lots of Drinking lots of water doesn’t really do wonders to human bodywater doesn’t really do wonders to human body.

The study was published in the June 2008 issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.

In their study, the researchers have also dropped the viewpoints that intake of water in larger quantities clears body toxins in a much better way, improves skin tone and helps in reducing body weight.

The researchers found that individuals living in hot, dry climates, as well as athletes, need more water and people with certain diseases benefit from increased fluid intake.

The study researchers said that there is no scientific evidence to demonstrate that average healthy people needed to drink at least eight glasses of water on a daily basis. It's not clear where the recommendation came from, according to the researchers.
Dr Dan Negoianu and Dr Stanley Goldfarb of the Renal, Electrolyte and Hypertension Division at the University of Pennsylvania stated that in certain cases guzzling plenty of water could be injurious.

However, Indian physicians agree with this, particularly with people who have kidney problems.

They also found that people having increased water intake experienced fewer episodes of headaches than those who did not, but the results were not statistically significant.

Dr Anoop Misra, Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospitals said, “This reduces the sodium level in the body. If water enters the body more quickly than it can be removed, body fluids are diluted and a potentially dangerous shift in electrolyte balance can occur.”

Dr Rohit Bhargava, skin specialist at Max Healthcare, said, “Never have I told my patients that their skin condition is because of less consumption of water.”

Dr Goldfarb further stated, “There is an urban myth that drinking a lot of water is healthy, and it leads to people toting around plastic water bottles all day drinking water.”

“There is an urban myth that drinking a lot of water is healthy, and it leads to people toting around plastic water bottles all day drinking water,” Dr Goldfarb said. “The source of the belief is the complementary and alternative medicine worlds.”

But the researchers warned that people should drink healthy water only. Ideal water to drink is the one that is free of pollutants, slightly alkaline and with lots of essential minerals.
