Millions of people spend numerous hours before their computer screen interacting with old friends or finding new ones on many popular social networking sites without being aware of the fact that this affecting their cognitive behavior.

The recent case of a woman emailing in her sleep once again brought attention of experts and masses to the adverse effect of excessive internet usage. The woman was suffering from severe insomnia and was taking the prescription medicine zolpidem. This woman sent out three mails while she was asleep and did not recall sending them the next morning when she received a call from a friend asking about the strange email sent the previous night. Those emails in sleep contained unusual spelling, punctuation, and content, such as a subject line reading "!HELP ME P-LEEEEESE" and an invitation to "dinner & drinks" that asked the recipient to "come TOMORROW AND SORT THIS HELL OUT Out!!!!!!"

When she contacted a sleep clinic, doctors were amazed to see this strange kind of behavior during sleep. Experts believe that it the first reported example of "complex nonviolent cognitive behavior."
