Federer expects smooth sailing despite summer arrival of first-born

Federer expects smooth sailing despite summer arrival of first-born Miami  - With Roger Federer's new baby due over the summer, the Swiss insists that his tennis work ethic won't be compromised - it's just that he and girlfriend Mirka will just go about the tennis business with a baby now a part of the mix.

"I'll still take decisions that are best for my game, you know. I have had a team in the past, there's just an added a member. It's going to be all right," he said after reaching the fourth round of the Miami Masters.

It's entirely logical that Federer's bottomless supply of income will serve nicely to ease any logistical pains of carrying a new family around on the worldwide circuit.

"We have the financial background," said the second seed at the Miami Masters. "Traveling - we can make it easy. Hotels - we can make it easy."

Federer says he expects longtime partner Mirka Vavrinec to change her role as personal gatekeeper of access, morphing into the more traditional motherhood figure.

"I just think she'll drop all the stuff she's been doing so far and just become a mother, what she's always wanted to be," said the father-to-be. "I don't think it's going to change a lot for what she has to do.

"She's been busy anyway before, so now she's busy in a different way."

But Mirka has no plans for now to be a stay-at-home mum. "She told me she still wants to travel as much as possible. We'll see how that turns out," said Federer. "We don't know yet, but I'm sure we'll find good solutions." (dpa)
