Former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral cremated with full state honoursInder Kumar Gujral, India's former prime minister who breathed his last breath on Friday, was cremated today with full state honour near Smriti Sthal in New Delhi.

Mr. Gujral died of lung infection in a Gurgaon hospital. He had been on dialysis for more than a year. He passed away just four days ahead of his 93rd birth anniversary.

He was given 21 gun salutes. A number of high-profile personalities, including President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi were present during his cremation.

Mr. Gujral is survived by two sons and three grandchildren. One of his sons, Naresh, is a senior leader of Shriomani Akali Dal (SAD). He is currently a sitting Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab.

Naresh's younger brother, Satish, is a celebrated artist and sculptor.

IT Minister Kapil Sibal said that India has lost one of his great sons in the form of Inder Kumar Gujral.

Mr. Gujral was India's prime minister for eleven months between 1996 and 1997, during a very chaotic political time for the country.
