Four black men sue K.C. bar over discrimination

Four black men sue K.C. bar over discriminationIt has been reported that four black men have filed a lawsuit, saying they were kept out of a Kansas City bar because of their baggy clothes when whites in similar outfits were admitted.

It was also reported that three of the plaintiffs say they were denied admission to the Maker's Mark in the KC Live block of the Power & Light entertainment district in Kansas City in August 2009, The Kansas City Star reported. One man said he was told his shirt was too long and two others that their clothes were too baggy.

The suit was filed in federal court, the Star said this week.

He was kept out of the bar in September during a night out with his wife because his clothes were described as baggy, the fourth has said.

They were in casual outfits within the published dress code, all four said.

The suit names Cordish Cos.; Entertainment Concepts Investors, a Cordish affiliate; and the Maker's Mark bar and lounge as defendants. The plaintiffs are seeking $20 million in punitive damages.

Cordish had taken steps to address complaints of unfair treatment, local officials had said in May. (With Inputs from Agencies)
