Sydney, Nov 12: Former Aussie Test captain Greg Chappell has said that it was high time that Oz selectors, coaches and high-performance managers sat together to look at the demands on the modern player, as was done in mid-80s when his country faced a tough recession in cricket and West Indies ruled the cricketing world.
The review in the mid-1980s, under chairman of selectors Lawrie Sawle, identified Steve Waugh, Ian Healy, Dean Jones and Geoff Marsh who led the team''s revival. It followed the retirement of Rod Marsh, Dennis Lillee and Chappell. Like mid-80s, Australia is once again struggling after the retirements of Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath.
Sydney, Nov 12 : Facing sharp criticism over wrong choice of bowlers during the fourth day of the last Test against India in Nagpur which his side miserably lost by 172 runs, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has said that he had no regrets over his decisions and he won’t shy away from repeating the decision in future.
Though he said he and the team learnt a lesson from the incident.
Sydney, Nov 12: Andrew Symonds was not originally on the selectors’ minds for Friday’s exhibition Twenty20 match against an All Stars team at the Gabba. However, he proved extremely lucky to be playing as James Hopes, who was preferred over Symonds, was struggling with a chest injury and would not have been fit.
Symonds has been out of the Aussie team for a few months now, after he went for fishing instead of attending an important meting during the last West Indies tour.
Sydney, Nov 12: The second highest wicket taker in the world and former Australian cricketer, Shane Warne has said that it wasn’t the right time to hang skipper Ricky Ponting, instead he should be encouraged and supported by the team management.
He said that Ricky had stood up everytime he was challenged, like in 2005 after the Ashes series when England won the series after a long gap.
