Zamboanga City, Philippines - One of six schoolteachers seized by Islamic militants in the southern Philippines has died in captivity, a provincial police chief said Saturday.
Senior Superintendent Federico Castro said Noemi Mandi, 34, died six days ago in the lair of Muslim Abu Sayyaf rebels in Basilan province, 900 kilometres south of Manila.
Brisbane (Australia), Mar. 27: Indian Australians Vijay and Shirley Singh have decided to sue the man accused of brutally killing their three children almost six years ago - for trespass.
According to the Courier Mail, the Singhs have filed a 140,000 dollar damages claim against Massimo "Max" Sica in the Queensland District Court for "negligent trespass" and, or alternately "private nuisance", at their Bridgeman Downs home around the time their children were killed.
The claim details cleaning, repair and security costs incurred after the crime and police investigation.
Kuala Lumpur - Two Malaysian police officers have been arrested for allegedly supplying drugs to local drug traffickers, a news report said Friday.
One inspector, 48, and a 29-year old constable, were detained Wednesday following testimonies from three suspected drug pushers who were caught in a drug raid Monday, the New Straits Times daily reported.
Following a tip-off, police nabbed the three suspects - an Indonesian woman and two local men - and seized about 2 kilograms of drugs, believed to be cannabis, worth 5,000 ringgit (1,344 dollars).
Singapore - The body of a newborn baby boy was discovered in a rubbish bin in the transit area of Singapore's Changi Airport, the Straits Times reported Friday.
A cleaner made the sordid discovery just before 9 pm on Wednesday.
Close-circuit television footage from the terminal was being reviewed to trace the person who dumped the fair-skinned baby, who had his umbilical cord still attached.
It is believed that drops of blood were found in a toilet near one of the terminal's gates.
Kuala Lumpur - A Malaysian baby aged less than one month died of starvation after relatives claimed the victim's parents had neglected to feed the child because they were too drunk, a news report said Thursday.
The child died Thursday morning in the intensive care unit of a hospital in the eastern state of Sarawak on Borneo after relatives found the baby unconscious early Wednesday, and rushed the child to hospital.
