Certain skills in young children may predict their reading abilityWashington, Nov 21 : Scientists have revealed that there are certain skills in young children that may predict their reading abilities.

The new study showed that prior to kindergarten, children with reading disabilities were distinguished from their typically developing reading counterparts by their performance on tasks of letter knowledge, phonological awareness, and rapid naming skills.

However, between these groups, only differences in skills related to phonological awareness persisted beyond the kindergarten year.

IIM enabling northeast students realize dreams with quality education

Shillong, MeghalayaShillong , Nov. 19 : For long Shillong has been known for its captivating environs and music culture. But the State capital is also gaining reputation as an education centre.

Local residents believe Shillong is all set to become a Mecca of learning for students from the north-east region of the country with the opening of the first branch of the premier Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

The first batch of IIM here started in July 2008 here. The Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM) in Shillong is the seventh branch of IIM.

Canada is partner country at FICCI Higher Education Summit 2008

New Delhi, Nov. 18 : Canada will be featured as the partner country for a Higher Education Summit organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in New Delhi November 25-26, 2008.

More than 40 Canadian institutions will participate in the two-day Summit with the theme: Higher Education at the Crossroads: Imperatives for Policy and Practice.

Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) and the Canadian High Commission in Delhi have partnered with FICCI for the event in which more than 500 delegates from around the world are expected to participate.

Rs 300 crore ISB campus in Mohali The Indian School of Business (ISB) has decided to set up second campus of business school in Mohali. Rs. 300 crore campus would be the first campus in northern region and it is expected to be operational by 2012. ISB's first campus is located in Hyderabad. Punjab government has decided to extend every help for this prestigious education institution. It would lease 70 acre of prime land in Mohali for 99 years at Re 1 per acre annually.
