Berlin  - Germany congratulated Tzipi Livni on Thursday on being chosen to lead Israel's Kadima party.

Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier sent the Israeli leader a message saying: "You take on your new office at a time of ... great challenges but also opportunities for a long-term peace." (dpa)
