The video game world is expanding with every new morning. A true game lover will not be unknown with the name of “Grand Theft Auto IV,” which was launched by Rockstar in the U.S market in the month of April, and experienced $310 million revenues on the very first day.

Now after three months, it can be said, that GTA IV is the most popular and best selling game globally for the first half of 2008.

A report called, “Top Global Market Report” released by Cosumer chart tracker NPD group in collaboration with United Kingdom (Gfk Chart-Track) and Japan (Enterbrain), revealed the first five best selling games between January and July of this year.

The names of the best games and the units sold are as follows-

- Grand Theft Auto IV--6,293,000 units
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl--5,433,000 units sold
- Mario Kart Wii--4,697,000 units sold
- Wii Fit--3,604,000 units sold
- Guitar Hero III--3,475,000 units sold

The video game software sales continue to increase in spite of the economic woes in the U.S. software sales were up 48% to $49 bn compared with the same period in 2007, for the six months ending in July.
