Green cars still out of reach
The use of green technology is surely very beneficial for the environment but the hefty price tags that these models carry in the Indian market are not proving to be very dear for the Indian consumer.
As the first batch of the 80 units Prius landed in India last week, the company is of a view that it is an aspirational product rather than being people's car and hence the price is so high.
But the Indian consumer has still not developed love for the green technology as Toyota's Japanese arch rival Honda also launched Civic with the hybrid technology in the Indian market.
However, prices as high as for Rs. 23 lakhs, the Indian consumer didn't see any sense in buying the product and hence the company was taken on the knees after it sold the inventory at a massive discount of Rs. 8 lakhs.
As far as the Indian consumer goes, he has developed his way of going green by using the LPG & CNG kits that emit fewer emissions. But as far as the hybrid technology goes, it is still awaiting its big break.
