Gunfire again across Kashmir border
New Delhi - Pakistani troops on Monday fired at Indian soldiers across the de facto border that divides the Indian- and Pakistani-administered Kashmir region, the fourth such incident in 14 days, NDTV news channel reported.
Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts in the Poonch sector of the line of control that divides the two parts of Kashmir, the report said.
There were no details of whether Indian troops returned fire.
Indian officials have said the recent gunfire is the most serious violation of a ceasefire with Pakistan announced in November 2003. One Indian soldier died in the gunfire July 29. Indian Defence Minister AK Anthony said earlier that Indian troops were exercising "restraint."
Soon after implementing the ceasefire, India and Pakistan resumed a peace process in 2004 to resolve eight issues dividing them, including their dispute over the Himalayan region of Kashmir.
Kashmir has been at the root of tense relations between the south Asian neighbours since their independence from British rule in 1947. The two countries have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir. (dpa)
