Hillary Clinton on her way to Iowa after announcing her candidacy for 2016 elections

Hillary Clinton is kicking off her bid for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

She has begun a tour of key states in her campaign following her announcement that she intends to make a second attempt at becoming the country's first female commander-in-chief.

Clinton is returning to the Iowa, the state that plagued her nearly eight years ago. In 2008, Iowa conclave paved the way for her ultimate defeat by Barack Obama.

Now, she wants to make her case to Democrats again and prove that she is the candidate who can represent the voters of Iowa in the best possible manner.

Clinton is traveling from New York to her first campaign stop on Tuesday in Iowa. On Sunday evening, she was spotted chatting with people at a gas station in Pennsylvania.

She is scheduled to do small-scale events and private meetings during a two-day swing Tuesday and Wednesday.

She'll do an educational roundtable at a branch campus of Kirkwood Community College and a business roundtable at Capital City Fruit in Norwalk, a small town just south of Des Moines.

Another event will be open to the public where there will be limited access to the news media. In a video posted on her website, she said, "Everyday Americans need a champion, and I'm going to be that champion".

Clinton, 67, is seeking a fourth chapter in American politics. She previously served as secretary of state and US senator for New York, as well as first lady when her husband, Bill, served two terms at the White House in the 1990s.

Campaign leaders said she is planning to take a more humble approach this time. She is focusing on message events in small settings, where she will be able to interact with real people. This would allow her to listen and re- introduce herself as someone who cares about working families.
