Aiming to emphasize its presence in the Indian luxury car market, Hyundai India, on Thursday, unveiled the advanced versions of its luxury Sedan Sonata. The new premium Sonata sedans are priced between Rs 13.9 lakh and Rs 15.9 lakh.

According to the Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the launch of its premium sedans will help to pep up the sales. The company expects to sell 1000 unit of the new sedans in the first year.

Confident about the sales of the new luxury Sedans, HS Lheem, MD of the company, said, "It is our endeavour to constantly upgrade our products; with the new Sonata we are looking to enhance our position in the luxury sedan segment.”

Lheem added, “Unfortunately, the total market size for such premium cars was about 8,000 units last year. We expect to sell about 1,000 units of Sonata.”

Sonata’s sales almost halved to 233 units in April-December 2008, from 449 in the same period in the year earlier.

Sonata’s 2.4 litre petrol engine variant is price at Rs 13.9 lakh, while its 2.0 litre diesel engine model is priced at Rs 14.9 lakh, and the automatic transmission variant is priced at Rs 15.9 lakh.
