Lahore, Dec 10: A group of international human rights activists from prominent non-government organisations, including representatives of Human Rights First (HRF) of the US, will arrive in Pakistan on Monday to observe the human rights situation in the country.

The delegation, comprising HRF Executive Director Maureen Byrnes and reputed lawyer and Yale Law School teacher Charles Lister is coming with the aim of meeting detained Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Aitzaz Ahsan, who is under house arrest.

The delegation, during the brief visit, is also expected to meet President Pervez Musharraf.

The mission would also meet members of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

Some HRF members also met with the delegation that had been sent to the US to justify the government’s case for emergency.

The members said the ambassadors that they’d met were "not very impressive".

Muhammad Ali Saif, who had been given the task of justifying the government’s action towards the superior judiciary, quickly tied himself in knots being unable to explain why the dismissed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was still under house arrest.

Nasim Ashraf, the slickest performer, constantly took refuge in claiming that Musharraf was vital in the struggle against extremism, the daily Times quoted sources, as saying. (ANI)
