IRS regrets making 'Star Trek' parody video

IRS regrets making 'Star Trek' parody videoThe Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has said that it regrets making a parody video of known Television show "Star Trek".

The parody video was shot by IRS employees at an agency studio in Maryland. The Congress has criticised the agency for wasting taxpayer's money on the video. IRS said that it spent about $60,000 on making Star Trek spoof along with a parody of the TV show "Gilligan's Island". However, it pointed out that most of the expenditure was incurred to make the parody of Star Trek.

The IRS admitted on Friday it was a mistake to make the six-minute video, which was shown at the opening of a 2010 training and leadership conference. The officials said that video, which includes a large set with control room, or bridge, of the spaceship featured in the TV show, does not have any training value. The IRS said that it will make stricter rules to control the use of its production equipment so that IRS videos are handled in a judicious manner.

"The IRS recognizes and takes seriously our obligation to be good stewards of government resources and taxpayer dollars. There is no mistaking that this video did not reflect the best stewardship of resources," the agency said in a statement.
