Ist Test: Kiwis Beat B’desh By 3 Wkts Daniel Vettori led New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by three wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series on Tuesday.

On the fifth and final day of the first Test, Kiwis needed 172 runs to win the match with eight wickets remaining.

Leading from the front, skipper Daniel Vettori, played a splendid knock of 76 runs (214 balls, 7 fours). With this, Bangladesh's hope of a first major Test win against a big Test playing nation came to an end. In 53 matches, the team has managed to won only one test match. It is the biggest score New Zealand has chased down to win a Test overseas.

Vettori added a crucial 45-run partnership for the third wicket with Aaron Redmond (79) and then 82 for the sixth wicket with Daniel Flynn (49). He was finally bowled by left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak with just 19 needed for victory.

Kyle Mills (one) scored the winning runs for his team, while Jacob Oram remained not out on eight.

The second and the final Test starts from October 25 at Dhaka.
