Lalu to hold talks with Nepalese leaders on Saptakoshi floods

Lalu to hold talks with Nepalese leaders on Saptakoshi floodsKathmandu, Sep 3 : Indian Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav will visit Kathmandu to hold talks with Nepalese leaders on the issue of floods in Saptakoshi, which has displaced millions of people in Bihar.

Yadav is likely to seek Nepal’s cooperation in solving the flood problem, which has hit both the countries.

He will meet President Dr. Rambaran Yadav and Prime Minister Prachanda.

Yadav had stated that the Bihar Government was negligent in dealing with flood problem.

The flooding caused by torrential rains, which officials say is the worst in five decades, was caused after the Kosi River breached a dam in Nepal where it originates, unleashing huge waves of water that smashed mud embankments downstream reaching as far as Bihar in India.

The flooded Kosi River flowing above the danger level in Nepal has damaged the Sirha dam at three places, posing a major threat to the dam and the nearby Kosi barrage, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
