LinkedIn launches new app to help users know co-workers better

A new standalone iOS app from LinkedIn will help users know about their co-workers better. The aim behind developing the app named LinkedIn Lookup is to allow users to have better information of co-workers, either who work in the same organization or users with a specific set of responsibilities and skills.

The inspiration for developing the app came from the company's research that found only 38% of users who were polled were satisfied with their company's internal tools when it came to look for information about their coworkers.

Pulse founder Ankit Gupta led a team that created the app. "In response, people are looking elsewhere to learn about their coworkers. 46 percent say they look up coworkers on LinkedIn. That's because it's easier to find coworkers on LinkedIn, and the professional info people add to their profiles is more comprehensive and up-to-date than lots of companies' intranets", Gupta wrote in a blog post.

The app is currently available on iOS and individual companies would be required to decide if they want to make the free service available to their employees.

LinkedIn website offers the option to organizations that are interested in doing so. Mobile web and desktop offerings are already available, though efforts are being made to make the app available on Android versions as well.

Job Search, Connected, Recruiter and Sales Navigator are some of the apps that LinkedIn has launched in the past. LinkedIn recently said that it has more than 30 million users in India, its largest market outside the US.
