London mayor wants a new hub airport for the city
Boris Johnson, the mayor of London has supported a report that calls for a new airport to be set up in London which will be acting as the hub. Boris said that the airport needs to be set up in south-east England.
He said that if the airport is not started then the economy will be at a loss and so will be the people because they would lose their jobs to other places where the airport (s) will become operational.
The mayor reiterated on the fact that London remains at the centre of global business and having aviation links is very important so that it still remains competitive even in the future.
The report was released on Tuesday by the Deputy Chairman of Transport for London, Daniel Moylan. It reported that as the number of destinations served via Heathrow has fallen down and it currently stands at number 7.
While Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris is connected to 224 destinations, Frankfurt has 235 and Heathrow stands with only 157 in its pocket. And since it is the other European airports that are winning over, Heathrow and its authorities need to take some strong stand.
