L&T books five large orders worth Rs.5177 crore in less than a week!

Larsen and TouboWith the most recent two project orders valued Rs. 1,344 crore from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL), Larsen and Toubro this week has booked five large orders worth Rs. 5177 crore.

By and large, these contracts are from government units - including Rail Vikas Nigam; Power Grid Corporation; Nuclear Power Corporation; and now MRPL. Over and above these large orders, the engineering and construction major L&T also has quite a few smaller orders in its kitty, pertaining to the company's other unannounced businesses.

L&T's latest two projects for the Mangalore-based MRPL - an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited subsidiary having current refinery facility with a capacity of 12 MMTPA - will deal with enhancing capacity and upgrading fuel quality to meet Euro IV specifications.

Both the orders, which form part of MRPL's Phase - III expansion projects, have been awarded to L&T on Lumpsum Turnkey basis.

As regards the extent of work for both these projects, it comprises procurement; supply; residual process plan; detailed engineering; edifice; system setting; testing & commissioning and performance guarantee trial.

In case, the present trend of further government contracts continues in future too, L&T will be able to keep up its efforts to sustain its growth, whilst the private sector is largely bearing the brunt of the financial meltdown!
