Man Caught Carrying a Large Amount of Marijuana
A man was caught in possession of more than 72 kilograms of cannabis during a random breath test. Peter Smyth, 54, was pulled over by police in Adelaide during a night time routine check. Officers quickly smelt the cannabis and found 39 bags hidden under a rug in the boot of his car.
An investigation of Smyth’s house led officers to discover $10,000 in cash and more than 50 kilograms of more cannabis. He was charged for unlawful possession and possessing a commercial amount of marijuana.
Chief Inspector Les Buckley suspects that there are more involved with Smyth’s collection of marijuana. Smyth is to appear in the Holden Hill Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon for one count of unlawful possession and two counts of possessing a large commercial amount of marijuana.
Smyth did not pay the bail and remained in custody. The police are still investigating where and who the man was taking the cannabis to. Chief Buckley states: “It was a very large amount of cannabis. We all know cannabis is in the community, but on this occasion (the man) was a bit unlucky”.
