Madrid - A man suffering from psychiatric problems has decapitated his mother in Spain, press reports said Tuesday.

The 35-year-old man was found walking shirtless around a square in Santomera near Murcia in the southeast, carrying the head of his mother, which he had wrapped in a piece of cloth, under his arm.

"I killed her," the man told police. "Now you are quiet, I love you a lot."

The other remains of the 56-year-old mother were found in a bar she owned.

The killer's Italian father had left the family while he was still young, and the mother had been very protective towards the son, who was under psychiatric treatment and had also suffered from a drug addiction, according to media reports.
