Media gets first ever tour of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin

The team members of Jeff Bezos’ space venture Blue Origin were aware that there would be queries when the company called up media to its Kent, Washington office this week. It was the first time ever that the press got the chance to enter Blue Origin, which has worked under the wraps till date. The rocket company floated by Jeff Bezos has been working on interesting space travel projects.

During a tour and roundtable, reporters threw lot of questions at Bezos. The conversation went on for four hours.

Some of the key questions asked during the meeting were:

One of the reports asked why Bezos is willing to explore space? Answering the same, Bezos said there are two reasons behind it, including using the space resources to protect the Earth and secondly it was a magnificent adventure.

Another question read: what is the company doing for making that exploration happen? Bezos replied, “It's a fact that over past 50 years, we haven't made that much progress in space travel. It's just fact. There are bunch of reasons for it, but the big one is we don't have puzzle pieces in place to allow it to explode with entrepreneurial passion”.

When one of the reporters asked Bezos about what’s missing?
He answered that reasonable heavy lift capability for getting meaningful payloads into space is missing. He added that it was the reason why the focus of Blue Origin is on creating reusable rocket engines to use and for selling them to other space companies and reusable boosters for the company itself. He mentioned that according to him what they can’t afford was to throw hardware away.

Bezos said he was quite excited regarding becoming the premier supplier of propulsion to other space companies. He said the development of rocket engines is so difficult that a company shouldn’t keep them to themselves. He mentioned that a company can come up with a very good business that's beneficial for other companies by sharing their propulsion technology.
