Dhabi, Nov. 24, 2008 -- Social Affairs Minister, Mariam Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, received at her office here today US Ambassador, Richard Olson and discussed with him ways to boost joint cooperation in various social areas and sharing of experience between the two sides.

The US Ambassador praised Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for the great success of the 2nd Arab Women's Organisation Conference, which was held in Abu Dhabi recently.

The US Ambassador said the huge participation in the conference and the recommendations issued at the end were very important and bear high hope of paving the way for better life for Arab women. This, he said, is a great step forward in the women's empowerment march in the Middle East.

He pointed out that Emirati women enjoy great support from UAE leadership. He said women now occupy respectable positions in the country's comprehensive development drive, adding that Emirati woman had been entrusted with leadership posts, including executive and legislative posts, which made her a member of the executive, the Federal National Council (parliament) and ambassador for her country at international events.
