'Need to remove Indo-Pak trade barriers'

Lahore, Dec 11: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Shahid Hassan Sheikh said that there is a need to remove tariff and non-tariff barriers between India and Pakistan to boost bilateral trade.

"Though, there has been great improvement there is a need to further improve the transportation and communications infrastructure, procedures and valuation and standardisation and quality control measures", he expressed these views on his return from five-day tour to Chandigrah and Delhi in connection with ITEX-07.

"Removal of barriers can jack up Indo-Pakistani trade to 9 billion dollar in a relatively short timeframe, " said Sheikh adding that certification and standardization of goods should be fixed on some items so as to make the process easier.

Sheikh had a number of high-profile meetings including Governor of Punjab General (Retired) S. F Rodrigues, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Punjab-Haryana-Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) President Sanjay Bhattia wherein a number of issues were discussed by both the sides.

The LCCI arranged the delegation to ITEX-2007 on the special invitation of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. (ANI)
