Nest of Eagle collapsed to ground in Florida, leaving young eaglet fighting for life

Nest of Eagle collapsed to ground in Florida, leaving young eaglet fighting for lifeWildlife officials have informed that an eagle's nest on Florida's west coast collapsed, sending one of three young eaglets crashing to the ground and severely injuring it.

The St. Petersburg Times reported on Monday that the eaglets, 8 weeks old, are covered with feathers but at that age lack the type of feathers needed for flight.

The newspaper also said that Audubon Society volunteers had placed an orphaned eaglet named "Hoover" in the nest with two other chicks and the adult bald eagles in February.

The occupants of the nest appeared to be thriving, until Sunday morning, when residents noticed the nest in the 60-foot pine tree had collapsed.

Pinellas County Audubon Society coordinator Barb Walker said, "The nest fell down, and we don't know if it's Hoover or not."

It was also reported that the injured bird was found by a rescuer who scooped it up with a beach towel and took it to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary.

Sanctuary spokeswoman Michelle Simoneau said, "It's not doing too well. We're just trying to save a life. It's in poor condition."

The Times further said that watchers observed the parents feeding the two remaining eaglets inside the nest's remnants on Sunday. (With Inputs from Agencies)
