New Study: Aerobics Help Boosting Mental Agility & Manual Dexterity In Elderly People

AerobicsStart doing aerobic exercise daily, if you are experiencing occasional memory lapses and reduced ability to pay attention. Yes, a new study at University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, aerobic exercises help boosting mental agility and manual dexterity in elderly people and improve the way they can concentrate on visual and auditory tasks.

The study gave out results evaluating 11 randomised controlled trials, comprising 670 adults aged 55 and older, which examined the effects of aerobic exercise on areas of cognition including cognitive processing speed and memory.

Lead author Maaike Angevaren said, "Aerobic exercises that improve cardiovascular fitness also help boost cognitive processing speed, motor function and visual and auditory attention in healthy older people.”

"This benefit adds to the other known benefits of aerobic exercise," said Angevaren. "Larger studies are still required to confirm whether the aerobic training component is necessary, or whether the same can be achieved with any type of physical exercise," he said.
