New York college town decides to delay putting up cost sign of the wars as it irks some veteransBecause of complaints from some veterans, a New York college town has decided to delay putting up a sign on the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton said that Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan said the city has letters of support from two national veterans' organizations.

But it was added by him that other groups have suggested the sign denigrates those who have fought in the Middle East.

Officials had planned to allow the electronic sign to go up Wednesday outside City Hall. The Broome County Cost of War Project has received private donations to cover the $6,000 cost of the 4-foot-high electronic sign.

He viewed the sign not as an anti-war statement but as a way to start a discussion of the cost of war vs. other needs in Binghamton and its region, Ryan said.

He further added, "We are sensitive to the issues raised by some veterans, and we are re-evaluating our options to facilitate discussion. We want to have discussions in the most effective way possible." (With Inputs from Agencies)
